A man has been killed in a suspected hit-and-run in Lincolnshire, police have said.

The incident happened sometime before 04:30 BST on Friday on the A16 Sibsey Road, Boston, near to the Pilgrim Hospital.

Lincolnshire Police said they believed the 53-year-old was a pedestrian and was hit by a vehicle. They are appealing for witnesses or any CCTV or dashcam footage to trace the driver.

The force added that the scene remained sealed off and diversions were in place with drivers advised to avoid the area.

Det Sgt Emma Ward said officers had spoken to people who had found the man in the road.

"It's vital that we have all the information available that could help us find the driver and vehicle involved," she said.

"This is a tragic outcome and our investigation will be meticulous and thorough in order to piece together exactly what has happened, for the man who has lost his life and for his family."
