A school remains closed four weeks after a fire ripped through its car park.

At least four vehicles were destroyed in the blaze at Compass School in Lingwood, near Acle, on the afternoon of 26 March.

Norfolk Fire and Rescue Service said the burning of nearby straw, which had spread to a hedge, caused the fire.

The Unity Education Trust, which runs the school, said it hoped to reopen next week and repairs to the car park surface would take place during the summer break.

The cars were parked close to the school building

"Works are continuing to make the school ready for pupils," a spokesperson added.

Compass School supports pupils aged four to 17 who have no mainstream school place, with children being taught remotely while the site is shut.

Firefighters from seven stations took about 75 minutes to bring the fire under control.

Norfolk Police said the incident was not thought to be suspicious.
