A teenager has been stabbed in a fight in which machetes and knives were used, police have said.

The 17-year-old boy was injured during the violence on Ryderbrow Road, Gorton, Manchester, before 23:30 BST on Friday.

Greater Manchester Police said officers had been given extra powers to stop and search individuals in the area until midnight.

A 17-year-old boy has been arrested on suspicion of violent disorder and remains in custody.

Det Insp Natasha Feerick said: "An arrest has been made and we are working hard to identify further suspects."

She said additional officers would patrol the area to provide reassurance.
