A pyrotechnics company's managing director accused of health and safety breaches following a fire that shut the M4 is due to go on trial next month.

The road was closed for about four hours between junctions 13 and 14 because of debris from the blaze in Westbrook, near Newbury, on 16 April 2022.

Terence Herbert, 67, of Binley, Hampshire, is the managing director of Fireworks & FX Ltd, which is based in Westbrook.

Mr Herbert appeared at Reading Magistrates' Court on Friday and a trial is scheduled to begin at Reading Crown Court on 29 October.

His prosecution is being led by West Berkshire Council, according to court documents.
