Martin Le Prevost wanted a review of the traffic situation

Residents have expressed concerns over traffic issues and parking near a new stadium.

The new Victoria Park football stadium won best large project at the Guernsey Property and Construction Awards, but residents living on Victoria Avenue have complained about congestion it has caused in the area.

Martin Le Prevost, a resident on Victoria Avenue, said: "Traffic and Highway need to come down and assess the situation... and just see how bad it is for residents."

The BBC has contacted the States of Guernsey for comment.

Mr Le Prevost said the new stadium was great but came with a lot of added traffic.

He said drivers had been mounting the pavement and the traffic was putting pedestrians in danger.

"It's only a matter of time before something terrible happens," he said.

He said residents would return home in the evening with nowhere to park because people were going to the gym or football training.

"It's not really fair on us," he said.

Miguel Diniz said his business had lost members due to traffic

Miguel Diniz, the manager at local business Anytime Fitness, said he had lost memberships due to the traffic conditions.

"We have lost a few members just due to the traffic... even for our staff to get in sometimes they get stuck in traffic and it can take up to an hour just to get to the gym," he said.

"I think the main issue is there's so many roads closed at the same time... maybe if they cut that to half per time that would definitely help."

Helen Mahoney said how busy it was depended on the time of day

Helen Mahoney, another resident, said how busy it was depended on the time of day and day of the week.

She also believed the difficulty was caused by roads being closed at the same time.

"I come in the mornings and early afternoons and I have found no problem at all in fact I come here because it's so easy to park," she said.

"I wouldn't come on a match day because you won't get parked you can't get down the road it's residents and game watchers only."
