The States of Guernsey said Grange Road in St Peter Port would be closed from Monday

A key route in Guernsey is to be shut to traffic while improvement works take place.

The States of Guernsey's traffic and highways services said it would be carrying out resurfacing works and accessibility improvements to the Grange in St Peter Port from Monday until the 31 October.

It said several informal crossing points for pedestrians would be introduced.

"As this is a key route through the island, we appreciate that these improvement works will cause significant disruption to commuters, public transport, and general traffic flow," the States said.

"However, we will be taking steps to mitigate this including carrying out the work in phases so that access can be maintained to businesses and homes.

"Our contractor will also be working seven days a week to complete this as quickly as possible."

The States said phase one of the improvements would be carried out between Monday and Friday between the junctions of Sausmarez Street and Upland Road, adding there would be diversions in place for islanders heading in and out of town.
