The body of a man has been found at a beauty spot.
Essex Police said it was recovered from Hangman's Woods in Grays earlier this week.
The force received a call shortly after 14:00 BST on Tuesday by someone who thought they had seen a body in deneholes at the site off Stanford Road.
Det Insp Lydia George said: "A forensic post-mortem examination took place yesterday, where it was confirmed the remains are those of an adult man."
Deneholes are ancient chalk caves which were used as mines in medieval times.
