Boy, 17, injured in suspected machete attack

A teenager has been hurt in a suspected machete attack in a town, leaving him with a serious hand injury.

The 17-year-old suffered what police described as "potentially life-changing injuries" to his left hand after being attacked in Atherton, Wigan, shortly after 17:30 BST.

Greater Manchester Police said no arrests had yet been made and several roads around Gloucester Street in the town are closed.

The force said inquiries were ongoing.
