Plans for HMO refused over lack of parking

Plans were submitted to turn 164 Belsize Avenue into a five-bedroom house in multiple occupation

Plans to convert a three-bedroom terraced property into a five-bedroom house of multiple occupancy have been refused over parking concerns.

An application had been submitted to Peterborough City Council to convert the house in Belsize Avenue in Woodston into an HMO for up to five people.

Plans for the two-storey terraced house also included a single-storey extension, cycle parking and a new dormer window.

The application, which was submitted on behalf of John Mackin, received objections, which included from the Local Highways Authority over no parking provision at the property.

The council's planning committee refused to grant permission this week after planning officers said the proposal "lacks parking provision in which zero parking spaces have been designed".

They added: "The development delivers a shortfall of five off-street parking spaces and, as such, has the potential to result in an increase of on-street parking.

"The lack of parking provision has been designed without justification or exceptional design reasons for not being able to do so, therefore, it is clear that this site is not suitable for the conversion to a HMO."
