A teenager accused of murdering a 16-year-old boy by stabbing him outside a train station has appeared in court.
Joshua Ingram, 16, who lived in Newhaven, East Sussex, died after being stabbed in the back and side outside Seaford station at about 17:00 BST on Wednesday.
The boy charged with his murder, aged 16, who cannot be named due to his age, spoke to confirm his age and address at Brighton Magistrates' Court on Friday.
He has also been charged with possession of a bladed article and was remanded into youth detention ahead of a hearing at Lewes Crown Court.
British Transport Police, Sussex Police and paramedics were called to the scene, but the boy's injuries were "catastrophic" and he died at the scene, Joe Lewis, prosecuting, said in court.
In a tribute, his family said he was a "cheeky chappy" and "loved by many" and had been taken "far too soon".
East Sussex College, which Joshua attended, said they were "deeply saddened" to learn of his passing.
"Although Joshua had only recently joined the college, he was already part of our community and will be greatly missed," a spokesperson added.
The two teenagers are thought to have been known to each other.

"On 10 September, Joshua Ingram and a friend were walking to Seaford train station; it was at that point that Joshua was ambushed," Mr Lewis said.
There is CCTV footage of the incident, which shows Joshua being stabbed first in the back, and then in the side, the court heard.
While Joshua was not pronounced dead until almost an hour later, Mr Lewis said: "Those injuries were so catastrophic that he was dead within about 10 minutes."
On Thursday, Supt Dominique Ioannou said: "I want to begin by expressing our deepest sympathies to the family and loved ones of the teenage boy who tragically lost his life here at Seaford station.
"His family are being supported by specially-trained officers and we would ask their privacy is respected as they come to terms with this terrible news.
"We understand that this news will also be incredibly distressing for the local community."
Anyone who witnessed the incident or has any information about it is asked to come forward.
The railway line between Seaford and Newhaven Harbour was suspended while officers worked at the scene. It reopened at 16:14 on Thursday.
