Lulworth Cove is a popular tourist spot

A beach sauna is to be built at a popular beauty spot on Dorset's Jurassic Coast.

The Weld Estate has been granted permission for the sauna at Lulworth Cove for three years.

It will be run by Saltwater Sauna, which has been operating in Poole since 2021, and electricity will be provided by solar panels and the sauna fuelled by a wood burner.

Opinion was divided over the scheme with objectors calling it an "eyesore" and citing safety concerns about the stability of the cliffs.

However those in favour have argued it will be good for tourism.

Plans include the demolition of a fishing store before work can begin.

Once open, the facility is expected to be open from 06:30 throughout the year until 17:00 from September to March, and until 19:30 from April to June.

During July and August, it will be open from 06:30 to 11:30 and from 17:30 until 22:30.

Beach saunas have grown in popularity in recent years with similar facilities already operating in Weymouth, Portland, Seatown, Studland and Poole.
