Warnings for heavy rain have been issued across Devon and Cornwall as well as the wider region.
The Met Office has issued the yellow weather warnings for the South West over a period of three days.
The forecaster said the alert would come into force at 21:00 BST on Wednesday and would remain in place until 23:59 BST on Friday.
It said flooding, power cuts and travel disruption were possible.
The forecaster said heavy rain would become more extensive on Wednesday night and especially Thursday.
"Over a longer period a few places could see more than 50-60 mm, possibly even as much as 80-100 mm if repeated batches of heavy rain affect the same locations," it said.
