Police swan rescue prompts Hot Fuzz jokes
- Published
A young swan has been rescued after being found wandering outside a police station.
The "disorientated" cygnet was spotted in a car park by the cleaner at Ladywood Police Station, in Birmingham.
It is believed to have mistaken the wet road surface for a waterway, said West Midlands Police.
PC Ian Butler, who saved the bird, said: "I’ve been on the receiving end of plenty of Hot Fuzz jokes since then, but thankfully, it was just the one swan!"
In the film, a rural police officer played by Simon Pegg finds himself chasing a rogue swan through a village.
The cygnet rescued in Birmingham was checked over by wildlife crime officers before being taken to Edgbaston reservoir to join other swans.
