Changes to parking rules at a city hospital have been introduced to allow the construction of a new multi-storey car park.

An extra 500 spaces will be created at the Royal Derby Hospital, aiming to improve access to the site.

Meanwhile, the trust that runs the hospital said there would be fewer parking spaces until the work was completed, and encouraged patients and visitors to use the park and ride service at Kingsway Boulevard.

The 365-space site includes a shuttle bus, which will drop off and pick up every 20 minutes from five locations around the hospital, the trust said.

Andrew Selby, director of estates and facilities at the University Hospitals of Derby and Burton NHS Foundation Trust (UHDB), said: "We know the parking changes will cause some mild disruption on-site and we are grateful to our communities for working with us while we build the new car park."
