The leader of the Reform UK group on Derbyshire County Council is facing a court summons for allegedly owing almost £4,000 in council tax.

Philip Rose, who represents Alfreton and Somercotes, is liable for £3,732.72 for his home address in Riddings, according to a complaint filed at Southern Derbyshire Magistrates' Court.

The alleged arrears apparently go back to April 2021 – the year he was elected – as seen in court documents lodged on 7 October this year.

Rose denied he owed the money but when asked by the BBC to provide evidence, he declined.

Reform UK was also contacted but declined to comment.

Rose was first elected as a Conservative party councillor but lost the party whip in 2022 due to historical social media posts and later defected to Reform UK.
