The plan outlines potential developments focused in and around Peel and Ramsey

A public inquiry is set to be held to discuss a raft of revisions to draft development plans for the north and east of the Isle of Man.

Responses to a consultation in 2022 on the original proposals for areas in and around Ramsey and Peel influence the revision, the Cabinet Office said.

The changes include the possibility of an active travel route in Ramsey, a "safeguarding zone" over the Jurby Aerodrome and land earmarked for residential development in Peel.

The inquiry, which will be led by an independent planning inspector, will take place in July.

The papers, external setting out the proposals include hundreds changes to the original draft.

'Vital tool'

A spokesman for the Cabinet Office said a number of potential development sites had been submitted by "landowners, developers and local authorities" in response to the consultation.

Work by the government and the Housing and Communities Board has also informed the changes, he said.

The proposals include provision for the development of several open spaces into residential and employment projects in Ramsey, Glen Mona, Andreas, Jurby, Bride, Kirk Michael, St. John's, Foxdale, and Peel.

The plans also outline the potential for transport and active travel routes, tourism, and open spaces and recreation land, and the redevelopment of brownfield sites.

Diane Kelsey MLC, who has responsibility for planning policy in the Cabinet Office, said the strategy would be a "vital tool" when decisions were being made "for the foreseeable future".

"We want to ensure the plan, once approved, accurately reflects what is needed by the communities and businesses in the north and west of the Isle of Man," she added.

Once completed, and subject to its adoption by the Cabinet Office, the next stage of the plan will go to Tynwald for consideration.
