Brian Jones is appealing for tents and sleeping bags

An addiction charity has put out an appeal after their supply of sleeping bags dropped to one.

The Moses Project in Stockton is also seeking more tents to give to homeless people.

“This is the worst we’ve had it,” said Brian Jones, the charity’s founder, adding demand for services has recently soared.

“Quite a few people are sleeping in shop doorways,” he said. "A sleeping bag and a tent keeps them warm at least."

Mr Jones said the number of homeless people reaching out to the charity had dramatically increased in recent weeks.

“We had four people in here yesterday, we’ve had three people in today – it’s just a nightmare trying to find room for them all,” he said.

“It’s shocking out there at the moment.

“We want to try and get people houses as quickly as we can, but in the meantime a sleeping bag and tent can keep them warm and dry during the night."
