Elephant sculpture trail for hospice birthday
- Published
A 40-strong herd of multi-coloured elephants will be on parade around Leicester next summer.
To mark its 40th anniversary, LOROS Hospice in Groby Road is creating an art trail of mammoth proportions.
Stomp Round Leicester will see 40 decorated elephant sculptures placed across the city.
The free trail, being created by the hospice alongside Wild in Art, will remain in place for 10 weeks in Summer 2025.
The sculptures will then be auctioned to raise money for the hospice, which provides care and support to adult patients who are terminally ill and their families.
Stomp Round Leicester follows on from 2021’s hugely successful Rocket Round Leicester trail, which raised more than £315,000 for the charity.
Rob Parkinson, LOROS chief executive, said: "Stomp Round Leicester will be a brilliant, colourful party and everyone's invited.
"LOROS is at the heart of its community and our elephant art trail will celebrate with everyone who supports us and uses our services."
The first elephant sculpture to be unveiled is Cellie-bration, painted by artist Donna Newman, featuring 40 intertwined elephants beneath a Leicester skyline, showered in ticker tape.
LOROS Hospice is now inviting businesses, community groups, schools and other organisations to take part.
