Three teenagers have been arrested after a 15-year-old boy was killed in a crash in Newcastle.

The boy was pronounced dead at the scene after the single vehicle crash on Stamfordham Road in West Denton early on Monday.

A 16-year-old boy was taken to hospital but his injuries were not believed to be life threatening, Northumbria Police said.

He and two other boys aged 14 and 15 have been arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving.

Northumbria Police said the investigation was ongoing and appealed for anyone with information to get in touch.

Insp Dean Hood described it as a "tragic incident" and said the victim's family was being supported by specially-trained officers.
