Golf club devastated after burglars take trophies

A golf club has been "devastated" after more than 40 trophies - some dating back more than 120 years - were stolen during a burglary.
Thieves smashed their way in to Leamington & County Golf Club in Whitnash before making off with the contents of the club's display cabinet.
Club manager, Bryan Frazer, said members were "devastated" at following the break in.
A number of smaller trophies were left on the ground as the offenders dragged a bag behind them during their escape.
Mr Frazer said all of the trophies are either plated, or solid silver including the Town Bowl - a cup given to the winner of the club's biggest competition which was given to the club shortly after it was formed in 1908.
"It was devastating to come in a see the trophies had gone and that's the same for all of the members who have won them," he said.
"Many members can trace their family back - their fathers or grandfathers had won the trophies."
He added: "We'd really like them back.
"I think there's always hope. I doubt they've taken them to market yet because it's quite recent."
Mr Frazer said the thieves set off an alarm at the club at 02:25 BST on Saturday, 21 March.
Since the burglary, the club has informed local antique dealers, auction houses and scrap metal dealers to warn them in case they are offered the trophies.
Mr Frazer said he wanted to warn other clubs after the break in.
"This is not unusual," he said.
"I would guess this happens to a club every month in this country.
"My advice to other golf clubs would not to have their trophies on display."
Warwickshire Police have been contacted for comment.
