Waterfall illumination to celebrate Diwali
- Published
A "Waterfall of Lights" display has been created to celebrate Diwali in Leicester.
Light artist Sola has created the LED spectacle, which will sit next to the River Soar as part of the Canal & River Trust's free event at the Leicester Outdoor Pursuits Centre on Saturday.
The event will include music, an illuminated paddleboard session and Diwali-inspired crafts.
In the run-up to the event, the trust will hold art workshops on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday, when people can decorate recycled bottles that will be lit up.
The workshops are being held at the centre between 11:00 and 12:30 BST each day and visitors need to book ahead.
On Saturday, the centre is offering bell boat paddle sessions and high ropes adventures at a discounted rate of £6 per person.
Community group Sewaday will also be running activities and Leicester City in the Community will be hosting Diwali wood whittling craft sessions.
The celebration is being organised as part of the trust's Community Roots programme, which aims to engage communities living within 1km (0.62 miles) of the river.
Kelly Alcock, community events coordinator for the trust, said: "This event promises to be an amazing spectacle, bringing the River Soar to life with a kaleidoscope of colourful lights.
"It will also be a fantastic community occasion, helping to create lasting memories for families by encouraging them to experience being in nature, by water while enjoying the life and colour of Diwali."
