Free drama therapy to boost youth mental health

A theatre has partnered with a charity to launch a Dramatherapy programme aimed at supporting the mental health of young people.
The free 12-week course, called M-Power, is designed by KidsAid for 12 to 16-year-olds and will be hosted at Corby Cube in Northamptonshire.
Dramatherapy is a form of psychotherapy that blends creative techniques such as drama, storytelling, movement, music and art to support emotional well-being.
Rebecca Caswell-Fox, chief executive officer of KidsAid, said: "M-Power Dramatherapy will give young people the opportunity to engage in a programme that is tailored to their needs and delivered in a safe, familiar space."
The therapy is being delivered by trained clinicians who use theatre-based methods to help young people express and process their emotions in a safe and engaging way.
M-Power will provide group therapy for up to 10 young people, helping them develop skills and tools to cope with life's challenges.
Karen Cudby, the Core's youth development coordinator, said: "Young people have consistently told us how important it is to have effective mental health support accessible in spaces they already feel comfortable in.
"M-Power Dramatherapy will do exactly that, providing a 12-week programme tailored to their needs and delivered in our town centre youth space."
Due to the nature of the course, places will be allocated based on therapist assessments to ensure the programme benefits those most in need.
The programme starts on 26 February, with registrations of interest now open, external.
