Police have been given extra powers over concerns about people carrying "offensive weapons" or "planning crime" in three neighbourhoods.

Merseyside Police was given enhanced stop and search powers to use in the Walton, Vauxhall and Kirkdale parts of Liverpool.

The Section 60 Order was brought in on Sunday and was set to be in force until 18:00 GMT on Monday.

Chief Inspector Martin Mannion, said: "Our officers will be out to ensure that there is a highly visible police presence to reassure communities, following incidents of criminality and violence."
