About 5,000 engineering professionals are expected to attend a two-day event in Coventry.

The Engineering Design Show is due to feature more than 220 exhibitors from areas including product design, 3D printing, motors, sensors and robotics on Wednesday and Thursday.

The event's conference programme at the Coventry Building Society Arena was tailored for design engineers across "all market sectors", organisers said.

The free show will include practical workshops to equip young engineers with "new tools, techniques and fresh thinking".

The show said it provided "a platform for new talent to grow, giving students a first step into the industry".

It will include a Nottingham Trent University student showcase, giving the next generation of product designers a platform to present their work.

The show is to host a work in defence stand and there are due to be opportunities to meet such organisations.

Event director Simon Bonell said that amid "so much volatility... innovation and output in defence has become a primary objective for many countries".

"There is a clear need for talented designers and enterprising minds to enter this industry so the work in defence feature is a much-needed and welcome addition."
