The door of a home was set on fire, gunshots were fired and windows smashed during an attack on a home in Liverpool.

It happened just before midnight in Helena Street, Walton, Merseyside Police said.

Witnesses reported hearing loud bangs outside the house and officers later found evidence of gunfire at the scene.

Firefighters tackled the blaze as police began a search for two males who fled the area. Nobody was injured.

Det Ch Insp Gary Stratton appealed for information and footage, adding: “Firing a gun in a residential street is extremely reckless and dangerous.

“Thankfully nobody was injured but this could have led to more tragic circumstances.”
