A man has been charged with attempted murder after a woman was found with serious injuries in a Nottingham street.

Emergency services were called to Bells Lane, Cinderhill, shortly before 21:30 BST on 1 October.

A 40-year-old man has been charged with attempted murder, making a threat with an offensive weapon in a public place and taking a dog so as to keep it from the person with lawful control.

The injured woman, who is in her 40s, was taken to hospital but her injuries are not thought to be life-threatening, officers said.

The pet theft charge related to a dog that was reported stolen from an adjacent property.

The man appeared at Nottingham Magistrates' Court on Wednesday and was remanded into custody to appear at Nottingham Crown Court on 6 November.

Nottinghamshire Police believe he was the first person in England to be charged with a "dognapping" offence since the Pet Abduction Act (2024) came into force in August.

Detectives said the missing dog had not been located and appealed for information.
