A sea swimming event raised £12,000 for Les Bourgs Hospice.

The annual 12 Bays of Christmas involved swimming in festively renamed Guernsey bays including Rocquaine around the Christmas Tree, and Away in Fermain-ger.

Liz Stonebridge, from the hospice, said: "It is always a bonus to know that people are having fun while raising money for such an important local charity."

The hospice, which opened in 1991, provides free care for up to seven in-patients suffering from life-limiting illnesses as well as respite and day care.

A team called Rick Robins - named in memory of a friend who had been cared for by the hospice - raised £1,305, which was the highest total of any team.

Melanie Torode, from event sponsors Advisory Services, said: "Les Bourgs relies solely on public support, so events like these are crucial for fundraising and keeping the hospice going."
