Convicted murderer on the run for a second time

A convicted murderer serving a life sentence is at large after going on the run for a second time.
James Meehan, 55, was convicted in 2009 for the murder of Londonderry man Jim McFadden.
On Friday evening the police issued an appeal to locate Meehan after he failed to return while on day release from HMP Magilligan.
In 2022, while on leave from prison, Meehan left the Limavady address where he had been allowed to stay and failed to return. He was then found by authorities in the Republic of Ireland before being extradited back to Northern Ireland and returned to jail.
Police appealed to anyone who has seen Meehan or who knows of his whereabouts not to approach him directly but call them.
They also appealed for Meehan to turn himself in.
