A man has been charged over the death of an 11-year-old boy who was hit by a bin lorry in Edinburgh earlier this year.

Thomas Wong was riding his bike when he was in a collision with the lorry on Whitehouse Road on 1 March.

Emergency services attended but Thomas was pronounced dead at the scene.

Police Scotland said a 28-year-old man had been arrested and charged with a road traffic offence. He will appear in court at a later date.

Thomas was a pupil at Cramond Primary School and lived in Edinburgh.

In a statement after his death, his family said: "Thomas was the perfect son. He was the best little brother to his older sister and was adored by all his family."

It was the second incident in Scotland this year where a child was killed after being hit by a bin lorry.

Elizabeth Bell, 11, died in hospital after being hit by a bin lorry near East Gordon in the Borders in January
