'I want a rave for my 105th birthday'

Care home staff said Hilda Jackson "lives life to the fullest"

A woman who will turn 105 this month will wave glowsticks and wear ultraviolet (UV) paint to a rave with a live DJ to celebrate her big day.

Hilda Jackson, from Ripley in Derbyshire, now lives in a care home but staff said she "loves to dance and party" and requested the event for her birthday on 25 February.

Staff at Holbrook Hall care home near Belper have also asked people send in birthday cards to help Mrs Jackson make the day more special.

Rebecca Wass, care home manager, told the BBC: "She's always been a big fan of dancing and living life to the fullest."

Mrs Jackson is a big fan of tennis and played a lot when she was younger

Mrs Jackson, who was born when David Lloyd George was prime minister, is the home's oldest resident.

She worked in a fabrics factory after she left school and made munitions in Derby during World War Two.

The 104-year-old is said to have been a big traveller in her younger days and loved playing and watching tennis - especially Wimbledon.

Dancing and music has also been a big part of her life, Ms Wass added.

The care home manager said the music would be "traditional party songs" from across the decades.

But residents will also be able to request tunes from the DJ on the night.

"I'm not sure where the idea came from," she said.

"I don't know if she's seen something in a film, but she said she wanted a good celebration.

"She's always been a big fan of dancing and living life to the fullest so she wanted to do something to represent that."

People are being urged to send in birthday cards for Mrs Jackson for her birthday on 25 February

"There's a DJ coming in, rave lighting, UV paint and all sorts of things," she said.

"She had a similar request last year so all the care home residents had glow sticks, the whole works.

"We had a few last year who were up dancing away and even Hilda gives it a go."

Ms Wass said Mrs Jackson was well thought of across the home.

"She's a very cheeky lady," she said. "She's constantly on the go, very determined and very aware of what she wants.

"She's often asked what's the secret to be able to act so young in her old age and she puts it down to playing tennis, which she did in her youth.

"We're asking people from anywhere to send in birthday cards - we want to show just how loved Hilda is."
