Child rapist jailed for catalogue of sexual abuse

A man who raped and sexually abused a child has been jailed for 17 years.
Brett Baker, 33, was arrested after concerns were raised about the young victim in the Thurrock area of Essex in 2021.
During interviews with police, the child said Baker had sexually abused her on multiple occasions.
The defendant, of River View, Grays, was found guilty of 10 sexual offences at Basildon Crown Court after a week-long trial.
This included two offences of rape of a child under-13, four counts of assault of a child under-13 by penetration and a further four offences of sexual assault of a child under-13.
Essex Police said Baker had previously been convicted of multiple sexual offences.
"It’s difficult to comprehend the suffering that Baker has caused the young victim," said Det Con Jeffery Wainman.
"Her bravery in speaking with us and outlining Baker’s behaviour should never be underestimated."
Baker will be on the sex offenders register for life and was made the subject of a sexual harm prevention order for an indefinite period.
