Construction work has been completed on the final stage of Guernsey’s Admiral Park £80m development.

The St Peter Port project is the culmination of more than 20 years of investment in the area, developers Comprop said.

The site includes a Premier Inn, Good Rebel restaurant, No 1 The Plaza and a multi storey carpark.

It is hoped the development will not only benefit the economy, but also islanders who live, work and socialise in the area.

'Fitting conclusion'

Steve Marie, Comprop managing director, said he was delighted to see the project completed.

"Comprop has been developing Admiral Park for more than 20 years, and Plaza House is a fitting conclusion to the project.

"We wanted to make a significant contribution to Guernsey’s built environment and we hope to have set a new standard with this."

Gavin Rihoy, chair of the project's main contractor Rihoy & Son, said the development was not without its challenges, including weather delays.

He said it has been a "hugely successful" project for the island.

Of Plaza House Mr Rihoy said: "It's a fantastic addition to the built environment of Admiral Park, in many ways it is the icing on the cake."

Andrew Ullyott, of Jason's Powers Consultants, said it "looks great" and has been delivered "on time and on budget".

Managing director of Watts Property Consultants, Joanna Watts, said it has "ticked all the boxes".

"We took a decision early on to make sure that this was the best and most sustainable building in Guernsey," she said.

Chartered architect and Lovell Ozanne director Andrew Merrett said the bar has been set.

"So every other bar we now look at is going to have to be slightly higher," he said.

Initial plans for the former gas works site were approved in 2013.
