A sixth person has been arrested after the remains of a baby were found at a house.

Police found the remains in Marsh Green, Wigan in April, leading to the arrests of five people aged between 20 and 70 on suspicion of preventing lawful burial.

A 71-year-old man has now been arrested on suspicion of the same offence, Greater Manchester Police said.

Det Chf Insp John Davies said an "incredibly complex " investigation was underway to work out "the full circumstances" of what happened.

'Isolated incident'

The 71-year-old has been held for questioning.

The five other people arrested have been released on bail.

Police said no further remains had been found as part of the investigation into what was described as an "isolated incident".

A post-mortem examination of the remains has taken place, but further testing from specialists was needed, Det Chf Insp Davies said.

He said the latest arrest had come "on the back of thorough detective work which has been ongoing since 10 April".

The force has appealed for anyone with information that could help its investigation to get in touch.
