Two housing developments including a total of almost 250 new homes on land in Barrowby have been approved by councillors.

South Kesteven District Council’s planning committee considered and approved both applications for housing in the Reedings Road area of Barrowby, near Grantham.

Developers Allison Homes and Persimmon Homes have jointly pledged hundreds of thousands of pounds in section 106 agreements to benefit the local community, including funds for a new village hall and cycle paths.

Councillor Sarah Trotter described the developments as a “breath of fresh air”.

Approving the planning applications, councillors were full of praise, according to the Local Democracy Reporting Service.

Councillor David Bellamy said “it’s a real positive” to see a “bigger picture” plan for how these homes and the associated works can serve the local community.

Free bus passes

Over £150,000 will go towards expanding the Grantham Primary Care Network, £350,000 will fund a dedicated footway and cycleway to link the sites to Grantham, and almost £250,000 will pay for year-long bus passes for each dwelling in the two developments.

Over a quarter of a million pounds will also be allocated for a new village hall and a new community space, and £123,000 will help boost Barrowby’s existing sports facilities.

The Allison Homes development includes 175 one to five bedroom homes as well as access points, open spaces and a community hub.

The Persimmon Homes development includes 67 one to five bed properties as well as access for vehicles from Reedings Road and Owen Way, a public open space and associated infrastructure works.
