Ringinglow Road leads into the Peak District

Police have broken up an illegal rave near Sheffield after about 60 people gathered for the "unlicensed" event.

Members of the public reported people gathering at the site off Ringinglow Road, which runs from the city into the Peak District National Park, overnight on Saturday.

About 30 people were in the area by 01:00 BST, South Yorkshire Police said, with numbers doubling by the time a dispersal order was issued at 02:45.

The organisers of the rave agreed to leave and the site was later cleared, the force said.

Det Supt Nicola Leach said: "Previous events of this nature have understandably caused concern among the local community.

"We received a number of calls about Saturday's planned event and worked quickly and effectively to restrict site access and successfully bring it to a close."

In February 2023, Sheffield residents complained of being "kept awake all night" by a rave in the Ringinglow area that continued until 06:00.
