A total of eight new foster families have been approved in Jersey following government campaigns.

The Government of Jersey launched a campaign to recruit more intensive foster carers in 2023, providing a salary of up to £56,000.

It said it had approved carers who the children "already have a connection with" including friends or other family members.

Annette Hope, head of the foster service, said it had "thrived with a renewed focus on foster carer recruitment".

She said: "Jersey has experienced the same crisis and shortage of foster carers since the pandemic as fostering services in England.

"It is wonderful to see this is recovering with an excellent, responsive team of professionals driving this forward in reduced timescales."

The government said a total of 15 families were either at application or assessment stage.

Ms Hope said fostering "could be lifechanging for you and our children need you".
