A planning application has been lodged for a £59m replacement for Nairn Academy.

Highland Council wants to demolish the current school buildings which are in poor condition and contain asbestos.

Potentially dangerous reinforced autoclaved aerated concrete (Raac) was discovered in the school earlier this year.

Scottish government funding has been secured to help pay for the new facility which is scheduled to open in August 2026.

The new school would have capacity for 760 pupils.

Nairn Academy's current roll is about 670 pupils.

The local community would also have access to new sports facilities to be created as part of the plans.
