Part of a major road in East Yorkshire has been closed after a lorry caught fire.

The A164 between Skidby roundabout and the Jock’s Lodge junction would be shut for most of the day, Humberside Police said.

The force said the blaze had damaged the carriageway.

Drivers have been asked to avoid the area.

East Riding of Yorkshire Council said the fire happened "in the early hours of this morning".

“The incident has meant the A164 road between Skidby roundabout , has had to be closed, this closure will be in place until at least late afternoon today," a council spokesperson said.

“The lorry has been recovered and moved from the scene and our highways team is investigating the damage to the road surface to see what repairs will be needed.”
