Summer in the Park event to show sports and movies

A giant screen will display the Paris 2024 Olympics opening ceremony at a park in Jersey, the government said.

Officials said the Summer in the Park event at Howard Davis Park will launch on Friday and continue throughout the school holidays.

The Creative Island Partnership said the big screen zone will be a "highlight" and will include movie nights, sports and musical events.

Minister for sustainable economic development, deputy Kirsten Morel said it was a "wonderful opportunity to celebrate and connect".

Alcohol-free

He said initiatives like Summer in the Park "enhance" the island's public spaces and "encourage community engagement".

Pip Carpenter, head of consumer markets and community partnerships at JT, which is powering the event, said the company was "delighted" to support it.

"Watching the world's sporting heroes break records and the biggest names in entertainment perform on the big screen will create an amazing atmosphere," she said.

"This is about connecting people, making the most of our exceptional outdoor space and creating a safe, inclusive environment, it’s a perfect blend of entertainment and meaningful family time."

Creative Island Partnership said the alcohol-free event comes after the success of the Euros screening.

It said the event was free to attend and the big screen zone can accommodate up to 2,400 people.

Summer in the Park will launch at 18:30 BST on Friday.
