Police have released CCTV images of a man they want to speak to in connection with a rape inquiry.

A 16-year-old girl was assaulted in St John's Gardens, Liverpool, at about 01:50 BST on 12 April, Merseyside Police said.

Officers believe the man pictured could assist them with their investigation.

The force said the girl was being supported by specially trained officers.

Det Insp Carla Cross encouraged the man in the CCTV images or anyone who recognises him to get in touch.

She said the force believed he could assist their inquiries.

There has been a police presence in the area since the assault.

“It is important that people who live, work and socialise in Liverpool city centre feel safe and we will hope that our high visibility patrols will assist with that,” Det Insp Cross said.

The force continued to appeal for witnesses to come forward.

Delivery and taxi drivers are also asked to check for dashcam footage.
