Two serving police officers are under criminal investigation in relation to a fraud allegation linked to the maintenance of police vehicles.

The Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC) said the investigation by Staffordshire Police was being carried out under its guidance.

Neither officer currently works for Staffordshire Police, and both have been suspended from their respective forces.

Two Staffordshire Police staff members and two members of the public were arrested in June 2023 as part of the same inquiries and released under investigation.

'Served notices'

The two police staff members were also no longer employed by the force, the IOPC said.

The ongoing investigation into the alleged fraud is understood to have begun in June 2022.

The IOPC said the two police officers had been served notices telling them they are under criminal investigation, and that their conduct is being looked at gross misconduct level.

It stressed that the serving of notices did not necessarily mean that criminal charges or conduct proceedings would follow.
