Two youths, aged 17 and 18, have been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder after a man was injured in a firearms incident, police said.

Six others, including a 25-year-old woman and five males aged between 17 and 45 were arrested on suspicion of assisting an offender.

The incident, which police describe as a "targeted attack", happened early on Monday on Richmond Court, Grangetown in Middlesbrough.

Cleveland Police said a 40-year-old man was still in hospital with injuries not believed to be life-threatening.

The arrests were made after officers attended a number of addresses in the Eston area on Thursday evening.

All suspects are in police custody.

Enquiries are ongoing and police said they were carrying out patrols in the area to "reassure the community."
