A police officer was hurt when the car she was driving hit a shop following a crash with another car.

The unmarked police vehicle crashed with a Mini before striking business premises on Scotia Road in Tunstall, Stoke-on-Trent, at about 08:30 GMT on Monday.

The officer sustained facial injuries and was also treated in hospital for a suspected fractured wrist, said Staffordshire Police.

The road was closed for more than five hours for investigation and recovery work.

A structural engineer and highways officers also attended the scene, added the force.

West Midlands Ambulance Service said it was called to a two-car crash, with the female driver of one car taken to Royal Stoke University Hospital for treatment to injuries not believed to be serious.

No other patients required treatment from ambulance staff at the scene, the service added.
