A body has been found by police searching a derelict wine bar after a fire in Stoke-on-Trent.

The discovery was made earlier inside a building on Brockley Square, off Trinity Street, Hanley, following the blaze, Staffordshire Police said.

A cordon had been in place around the former Yates wine bar since emergency services were called to reports of a fire there at about 05:45 GMT on Tuesday.

A post-mortem examination would be held "in due course" to work out how the person died, the force said.

They were also working closely with Staffordshire Fire and Rescue Service to find out the cause of the fire, a spokesperson added.

The force said they were keen to hear from any taxi drivers who might have been in the area in the early hours of Tuesday.

A web page, external has been set up by the force for people to leave information or share CCTV or dashcam footage they may have.
