North East Lincolnshire Council said Cleethorpes' boating lake had "historically seen large amounts of vehicles causing nuisance"

Two cars have been seized and nine other drivers have been given warnings in a crackdown on nuisance drivers in Cleethorpes.

A joint operation between North East Lincolnshire Council and Humberside Police has been taking place at the town's boating lake for the past three months.

Police have been using special powers to allow officers to seize cars being used in a manner which causes alarm, distress or annoyance.

Insp Pete Musgrave said: “We absolutely will not tolerate anyone who uses a motor vehicle antisocially, putting others at risk and causing a public nuisance."

'Excellent' results

Uniformed police have been patrolling the area and working with the council's CCTV operatives, who have been monitoring its system and reporting back to officers in the area.

Action taken during Operation Snap included:

  • Six traffic offence reports

  • Nine Section 59 Police Reform Act warnings

  • One car seizure under Section 59

  • One vehicle seizure for no insurance

  • Five fixed penalty tickets issued

Councillor Ron Shepherd, portfolio holder for safer and stronger communities, said the results had been "excellent".

"The council operates a very strong zero-tolerance policy for law-breakers and this is the epitome of that in action. If you’re found to be disrupting the community, however that may be, you will be reprimanded."
