A young film-maker has won an award for a short documentary about beekeeping.

Taylor Smith from Telford told the story of a family-run beekeeping business in Macclesfield in which its owner shared what life was like as a beekeeper and why he was so passionate about it.

The 21-year-old, who studies at the University of Staffordshire, claimed Best Documentary at the recent Napier Student Film Festival, external.

She said: "It feels amazing to have won this award because I am incredibly proud of this documentary."

Speaking about the inspiration for Company of Bees, Ms Smith said: "When I was trying to come up with an idea for a documentary, I started to think about the things that I like and that led me to Winnie the Pooh and then honey, which I love."

In her documentary, she said, beekeeper Paul Beardsmore explained how his love of the job allowed him to "persevere through the tough times".

She made the documentary in the second year of her BA (Hons) Film Production studies.
