Firefighters have rescued a resident after a blaze spread to a flat from a storage facility in Wolverhampton.

Thirty firefighters were sent to the scene in Showell Road, Bushbury, at about 02:45 BST, West Midlands Fire Service said.

When they arrived, the fire had already spread to the flat, from where one person trapped inside was led to safety.

Three other flats were smoke logged and residents from the affected flats are being found temporary accommodation, said the service.

A statement from the fire service said all the flats in the building were searched by crews and there were no further rescues or casualties.

It said: "Firefighters remained at the scene to damp down. We left the incident once all hotspots were extinguished at 5.37am.

"A revisit has taken place in daylight hours and a hotspot was damped down using a hose reel. Firefighters will revisit the scene later this morning."
