A 70-year-old man has died after his car was involved in a crash with a lorry near Dreghorn in North Ayrshire.

Police were called to the A71 westbound between the Corsehillmount Roundabout and Warrix Interchange at about 11:10 on Thursday.

The man, who was driving a grey Kia Ceed, was pronounced dead at the scene of the crash with a white DAF HGV.

The road was closed for a police investigation and reopened more than five hours later at about 16:40.

PC Josh Forrester said: "Our thoughts are with the family and friends of the man who died, and we continue to carry out inquiries to establish the full circumstances of the crash and the events leading up to it.

"We are keen to speak to anyone who witnessed the crash or who saw the Kia Ceed being driven in the area prior to the collision."
