Clinics to check blood pressure and cholesterol

The appointments will be free

A free service to help islanders find out if they have high blood pressure and high blood lipids, including cholesterol, has been launched.
The States said the importance of early detection was highlighted in a health report in January - it said people may have no symptoms and may be "unaware of the link to serious health problems".
Guernsey Chest and Heart LBG and Public Health Services said it would work in partnership until December to help detect undiagnosed cases.
Dr Nicola Brink, director of public health, said early detection could "make a big difference to someone's health and quality of life".
She said: "This is important because high blood pressure and high blood lipids occur frequently and many people are unaware that they have these conditions.
"The early detection and treatment of these conditions can reduce the risk of heart disease, strokes and dementia.
"It is a great opportunity to reach more people in the community, especially those who might not realise they are at risk."
Caroline Ogier, manager of Guernsey Chest and Heart Centre, said no appointment was needed.
She said: "We are pleased to be working in partnership with public health to help islanders take control of their health.
"We will be looking to extend this programme to Alderney residents, if the pilot is successful."
The drop-in clinics will take place from September on Monday and Wednesday from 13:15 to 17:00 BST and Saturday mornings from 08:30 to 12:00 at the Chest and Heart Centre at the PEH.
