A man has been arrested in Birmingham on suspicion of being involved in organising illegal immigration by using social media to promote people smuggling services.

The 38-year-old, who holds dual British and Pakistani nationality, was detained in the Yardley area of the city, a spokesperson for the National Crime Agency said.

He is suspected of using online platforms to advertise illegal boat crossings between North Africa and Europe.

Digital devices were also seized and were being examined, the spokesperson added.
